Thanks for your comments on my blo...Hello Androide. Thanks for your comments on my blog a while ago. Sorry I haven't replied you back. I've been busy working and I was just not in a mood of blogging. Anyway... let me start answering your questions, alright?

I said about how proud I was knowing that we still maintain this practice of wearing headscarf. This is because we are able to do this despite of all "foreign" influences that are sometimes not positive. For me, it's about maintaining our identity, just like most people are trying to preserve their culture. I have so many Christian friends who always wear modestly during Bible session for example.. or when they go to church. This is the same thing for me, I try to wear modestly not only during prayer but everyday... This is just one of many ways people can do to be devoted to their religion. One may prefer to go to church every week, or read Bible everyday, etc. I'm proud that I wear headscarf because wearing it at the start was not an easy thing to do. I am definitely happy and proud that I could pass the test hehe..

Perhaps this would be one of many things that most people don't understand why we choose to cover our hair (aside from religious views). If you'd like to compare it, Asian (esp. South East Asian) culture and European culture are very different. In SE Asia and the Middle East, women are more respected when they wear modest clothes. This does not necessarily mean that women must wear headscarf, because in my country (Indonesia), many of them don't. Our physical beauty, sexuality, or appearances are best to be kept private or "just for our husband" if you'd like to call it :P . Wearing headscarf in my country does provide me with a sense of security because strangers would think that I am not the person who can be teased or checked on; compared to a woman who wears provocative clothes (again, this is quite "relative" because provocative clothes in Asia might not be considered so in Europe). I believe decades ago, modesty is very important for women in Europe (based on what I read from different books) and the term modesty and how people describes modesty is changing over the years -- which is currently happening in my country.

I never said that I never go out with my friends. What would this world be without social life!!?! :D hehe. I said that people are generally more careful when they ask me to go out, because I don't drink, don't eat pork, etc. "More careful" here means that my friends would tell me where to go and what would happen there... so that I'll be prepared rather than living me alone while others are drunk and I have no one to go home with :P . I don't mind mingling with my friends in the bar but I never drink. And I don't care if people drink alcohol in front of me -- it's them, it's not me... it's none of my business, really (as long as it doesn't harm me, I'm OK). I am quite flexible; having to live in Australia and meet a lot of different people from different backgrounds, culture, and religion makes me even more flexible and I'll make sure my own restrictions and headscarf do not trouble them or affect them in any way.

Wearing headscarf is for me a personal choice, just like my own religion tells me not to force someone to believe in one particular belief. I don't generally care if my girlfriends wear or don't wear headscarves. It's none of my business. I never even encouraged them to wear one, until they specifically tell me that they're interested in wearing one. And I don't agree with anyone who force their girls to wear headscarf. It's just not the right thing to do. Of course, you can't expect other Moslems to have similar opinions, because again, the term of "modesty" is different between individuals, depending on their interpretation of religion and it has got to do with their backgrounds and family! I have lived in 4 different countries and I have seen the good and bad when religion is interepreted so strictly as in Saudi Arabia... so I have my own opinion.

To answer your last question... "obey your husband" means to be devoted to our husband. Agreeing on everything he says does NOT imply in this. I believe that it's a matter of saying that you need to be caring and loving to your husband and be there for him when he needs... it's just like what couples normally do to each other :) . I told you above about the misinterpretation of religion that always occurs (due to some vague texts provided either in Bible, Qur'an, etc), especially in Saudi Arabia. Over here, a man would expect his wife to be fully devoted to him, even to the point that his wife must agree on everything he says. Of course this is totally against our religion! Sometimes they're backing their actions by providing one phrase from Qur'an but ignoring the other phrases that usually provide a far greater explanation. Which is a sad thing, if you ask me.

One last note from me is that, wearing headscarf does not limit myself to do anything that I want. I say this because many people whom I talked with thought that way. I have travelled the world, studied in different countries, interact with different people, work in different environment, and achieved my dreams. I am just a normal person like anyone of you. And like I said in my posting, I treat my headscarf just like everyone treats their clothes or underwear. People have to wear clothes when they go out, so do I (with the headscarf). Forcing someone to wear headscarf or preventing someone to wear headscarf (like what happened in some countries) is definitely against their will and basic rights. People should be given the freedom to wear whatever they want.

Alright, this comment might be too long now haha... But again... thank you so much for visiting my blog. By doing this I'll be able to explain many stereotypes regarding women wearing headscarf. :) Take care.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2692382689469880634.post-15942132950597666942008-07-09T22:40:00.000+01:002008-07-09T22:40:00.000+01:00This comment has been hidden from the blog.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2692382689469880634.post-6199566921064500552008-07-08T21:10:00.000+01:002008-07-08T21:10:00.000+01:00This comment has been hidden from the blog.agnusdarkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18197344227524099724noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2692382689469880634.post-60734895248916339242008-07-06T22:49:00.000+01:002008-07-06T22:49:00.000+01:00Nene_weno, qué gusto verte por aquí.
